I grew up in Bettendorf and went to college at Iowa State where I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Special Education. I began my teaching career in the Chicago Public Schools teaching in the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program. I taught in Chicago for 2 years before coming back to Iowa where I taught preschool, Early Childhood Special Ed and Kindergarten in West Des Moines for 9 years before moving to Des Moines Public Schools to teach at The Downtown School. I taught the 5 and 6-year-old multi-age classroom for 2 years before finding my home at Moulton in 2018. While at Moulton, I’ve taught first and second grade. I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum Design and Instructional Leadership from Drake University in 2009. When I am not teaching, I love to read, travel, and spend time with my family and friends.
I was born and raised in Spirit Lake, Iowa until I graduated high school. I moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa where I attended college and played basketball for the University of Northern Iowa. I graduated college with a degree in Exercise Science. I wanted to be a sports strength and conditioning coach for a college when I graduated but basketball took me down a different path. I moved overseas to England to play professional basketball for the Leiseter Riders. While living in England, I also attended Loughborough University where I recieved a masters certificate in Business Mangagement and Marketing with the hopes of one day opening up my own gym. After a year, I had a career ending injury playing basketball and returned home to the United States. I moved back home to Spirit Lake where I began coaching basketball. I also started helping out in a kindergarten classroom as an associate. My job as an teacher’s associate sparked my love for teaching. I have always loved kids and learning but never realized I wanted to be a teacher. After a year, I moved to Des Moines to live with my sister and attend graduate school at Drake University. I graduated with a Masters of Science in Teaching with a reading endorsement. I student taught at Moulton and ended up starting my teaching career as a 1st grade teacher at Moulton! I enjoy watching and helping students grow as readers and learners! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter!
